Spiritual Talk: Fr Isaac on St Catherine – Her Life and Witness
On the Evening of the 25th of November 2025, St George Cathedral was blessed to have Fr Isaac Zghaib give a talk to the community on the Great Martyr, Catherine of Alexandria. His talk was immensely insightful, beginning with a brief discussion on Martyrdom by surveying events within the Scriptures and early Christian experience. The Martyr was one who bore witness to the Lord, offering up their life for His glory. If it meant death, this was seen as ‘red martyrdom’, if it involved asceticism and labours, this was described as ‘white martyrdom’. Either way, these holy people who were crowned for such achievements, played a pivotal role in the life of the Church.
One such example, was that of St Catherine, who was born into a noble family. Beautiful and well learned, she found Christ, the Bridegroom, who offered her a ring – which she still wears to this day (Her relics can be found at St Catherine’s Monastery in Mount Sinai, i.e. the God-Trodden Mountain). Due to her unwavering love and testimony for Christ, she was tortured and beheaded by the authorities of the time but not before having brought many people to Christ herself. Thus, her witness and life continue to shine forth, presenting us with this great Saint of God.
We thank Fr Isaac for his inspiring words and ask for the intercessions of St Catherine always.
